Start of Last Cycle

This week we went ahead with the last cycle.  Wow, can't believe it has finally come to the end.  Though I am pretty fatigued today.  I do a bit around the house then have to sit down and rest.  I'm sleeping OK so I'm not tired.  The fatigue usually lasts only for a couple of days then subsides, though I've been told that the last cycle is a little more intense as the chemo affects are cumulative.  So one day at a time.

I had an added bag with the chemo this week.  I sometimes become a little woozy after I bend down and then get up.  I put it down to the anemia.  However I'm silly enough to tell the oncologist and he seemed a little bothered by it and thought I should have some iron.  So they give me this bag of very reddish, in fact rusty, looking stuff.  Then I go on with the regular chemo poisons.  However, the rusty gook brought me out in hives.  So they stopped the chemo temporarily and gave me some Benedryl to reduce the hives, but of course it made me very drowsy.  The hives slowly came down and they continued the poison but it delayed the session by a couple of hours and I didn't get out untill late afternoon.

Had a pretty good week really.  Went to a free concert Tuesday with some friends, though by the time we had eaten, there wasn't much of the concert left to watch.  But we had a good time anyway.  Also went to a couple of networking events though one was more fun than networking plus there was a good band playing at the venue after wards.  A little bonus.  But we made some new contacts at the other event and who knows what  may come from that.

Went to the beach a couple of times this week, and of course as usual I sat under the umbrella.  I do get up and go for a little walk most times.  Supposedly if you can exercise a little it actually helps reduce the effects of the chemo fatigue.  I had planned on going to the beach tomorrow, but not sure I'll have the energy for it.  Wait and see in the morning.

At my last chemo visit next week I should have some future appointments set up to go into the city and see the surgeon.  When I see him I imagine he will have a poke around and see what effect the chemo had on the tumour, and I believe he will set up a provisional surgery date.

Phase 2, the surgery, is rolling along here and I'm a little spooked by it because this is the life changing phase for me, and the time when I get a better idea of the long term prognosis as they biopsy everything they remove. But it will be what it will be and we will move on with that.

Nothing else to report this week.

Be well to All,
Chris

  1. yep, after the last chemo you will have a ct scan a week later, then a visit to the surgeon, who will want a look-see at your urethra (the snake!).

Glad to hear you are finally getting to the end of the chemo -- you have had a relatively rough ride. I continue to get some side effects - my legs had the burst capillaries, now a calf muscle that is killing me. Fun, fun, fun!
