Bitter-Sweet Week

Well this week was first round of chemo cycle 3, except I never quite made it.  My blood test results showed low red count, hemoglobin and platelets and the doctors decided it would not be in my best interest to be poisoned this week.  I checked my previous numbers (Sloan keeps all digital records and one can see all the results of the tests) and these numbers have been dropping slowly over the past 5 weeks so it's not too surprising.  The oncologist said it's not unusual and it poses no risk to the tumour regaining any ground -obviously my biggest concern.

On the positive side I'm feeling in great shape for the holiday weekend, since I'll be nearly three weeks out of chemo. I actually have some of my taste coming back, my hair falling out has slowed down and I gained back a couple of lost pounds -probably due to the protein shakes I've been drinking.  Of course on the downside, my treatment will be delayed by one week -and possibly more if this happens again after the third cycle.  Though in the grand scheme of things the doctor said it's really not a problem.  Hmmm.

A group of us went to a Beatles tribute band concert last evening.  They were really quite brilliant and did a fine job.  I say a group, as it started off as about a dozen or so people, and by the time each person had finished inviting others there was over 30 people.  I think we all had fun even though we didn't get to chat too much.  I'm taking it easy today but we're off to a Fire Island beach Sunday.  I plan to make the most of this feeling-good time.

A happy and safe weekend to all.

Be well,
Chris
