Hello to All, Well, this is my first foray into blogging -I've never paid too much attention to it in the past. Today though, is a different story. Bad news changes one's perspective on life.
About 4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a hi-grade, aggressive bladder cancer. Believe me, it's quite a shock to hear something like this. One really doesn't know what to do next. First off, one tends to think, "Why me?". Then one realises others are in the same boat and think, "Why them?", or why anyone come to that matter. I suppose it's just the way life is - Se a vida é. On the upside, bladder cancer is very treatable with a high survival rate, provided it stays confined within the bladder -and to ensure that happens you get chemotherapy followed by surgery to remove the bladder. BRILLIANT ! Then comes the decision of which hospital and which surgeon do you pick to give yourself the best chance of survival.
Right now I am enrolled in Sloan Kettering (pretty good reputation) with a surgeon, Dr. Harry who I hear has a good reputation, but I have had to wait 3 weeks to meet with the oncologist before chemo starts. Not at all happy about the wait and am considering alternate plans.
Well, we have a beautifull weekend coming up so I think it's time to dust off the shorts and get outside.
