It's Arrived!

Surgery is just around the corner, in fact, it's next Wednesday -too close for comfort.  Being this close there are a range of emotions and if I said I wasn't scared, I'd be lying. I'M not laying awake at night, but it is pretty much constantly on my mind as to how I'll fair for recovery, and that's the important bit for me - getting back to a 'normal' life as soon as reasonable.  Of course, normal is relative considering I'll have a reconstructed bladder that I have to learn to use and control.

Sue, quite naturally is also getting a little nervous.  She will have a pretty long day on Wednesday as I am sure we will have to be at Sloan early and she won't rest untill she see's me in recovery with my eyes are open.  Whereas by contrast, my day will be pretty short.

I start a clear liquid diet today and I have to take 'stuff' to make sure my intestines are completely cleared out!  I imagine I'll be quite faint by the time I get to surgery on Wednesday morning, not to mention being rather sore...  Then supposedly I'll be on the same diet for 1 to 2 days after surgery so I don' think i get to solid food untill next weekend. It's easy to see how patients might lose a few pounds during this ordeal.

The week before Labor Day and the holiday weekend was brilliant. Not only was I feeling pretty good with the effects of the chemo dwindling rapidly, but my son, Dominic, came to visit.  We had a great time and the weather cooperated, more or less.  Of course, hurricane Earl put a bit of a dent in our plans for the Friday, but we managed to have some fun nevertheless.  Dominic really enjoyed his visit, and as always, I was sad to see him leave.

Last week I had a biopsy on Thursday. All went smoothly and I am still on target to have an internal bladder constructed.  My surgeon usually does a biopsy as he believes it helps with surgery.  Given the bloke is pretty highly rated, one has to go along with that.

Once I'm done with the surgery and am back home, which I expect to be 20th or 21st, and get settled, I'll update this blog again, but somehow don't think it will be for a couple of weeks.

Be well to All,
Chris
